| The OES visited the Pancake Schoolhouse on October 18, 2002. Also known as the Selsor Moon Schoolhouse, this school sits just off of Selsor-Moon Road in Madison County. Much like the Paint Creek Schoolhouse, located just down the road, the Pancake School was probably built in the mid to late 1800s, possibly even as late as the early 1900s. It is a one room schoolhouse and is in decent shape compared to the Paint Creek Schoolhouse. The Pancake School is now used to store some farm equipment and other junk. But unlike it's counter part, the Pancake Schoolhouse is said to have a dark past. It is said that the school is haunted by the ghosts of children who were killed in an Indian raid. Some witnesses have reported seeing strange lights around the area of the schoolhouse and some have heard voices speaking to them. Pancake Cemetery, located just behind the school, is said to be haunted as well. Some say that the children killed in the raid are buried there in unmarked graves. During a night trip we got pretty spooked by strange noises coming from the field next to the school. A video with the noises will be added soon. |
