 Craneville

Craneville House – Being one of the only remaining houses of the ghost town, the house is reportedly haunted. It is said a man’s two sons hanged him in the attic of the house and he now haunts the home.

County Road 24 – Legend says you can see the ghostly figure of a man hanging near the intersection of County Road 24 and State Route 637. It is said that in the 1920s, there was a man who was haunted by the devil. One day after tending his farm, the man murdered his entire family. The sheriff found the man hanged by his neck later that night. It was rumored that a town person found him before the sheriff and enacted vigilante justice, but others believe the devil himself possessed the man, causing him to commit suicide. (Credits: Jeff Thompson)

Coffin Road – Legend says an old man who hated children set an orphanage on fire, killing many of the kids inside. He then went back down to the road and hanged himself from a tree, which is known today as “Hangman’s Tree.” Others say the orphanage was struck by lightning, which caused the fire. There is a plaque that marks the spot where the children’s home once stood. On certain nights, it is said you can catch a glimpse of a child or maybe even the old man hanging from the tree. Witnesses have also heard the laughter of children playing near the site and have found handprints and footprints on vehicles parked in the area.

Paulding Carnegie Library – The library is said to be haunted, but no one is sure who is haunting it. Employees working late have seen people in the building when no one was supposed to be there. The police were summoned and the building searched, but no one was found. A man and a little girl have been seen in the library most frequently.

Paulding County Jail – An electrician working on the third floor once reported seeing former sheriff John Keller looking at him. The sheriff had been dead for ten years. His ghost has been seen several times since then.

House on Main Street – A house built in 1906 on Main Street is said to be haunted. Orbs and shadowy figures are seen there on a regular basis.
