OES Membership Application

The Ohio Exploration Society will be accepting new membership applications for urban exploration and historical research soon. Membership to our paranormal team will remain closed. We are working on the final details of our expansion project and are in the process of updating our membership application. In the meantime, review the position information below and be sure to read our Code of Conduct to ensure you meet and agree with our guidelines.

All positions require that you read and agree with the OES Code of Conduct and are at least 18 years of age.

Urban Explorer

  1. Must have at least one year of experience exploring abandoned buildings, drains, tunnels, or similar locations.
  2. Must have your own equipment, including but not limited to, at least one flashlight and a respirator rated for asbestos filtration.
  3. Must be available to travel to all counties within your assigned district (see map below) within a reasonable amount of time.
  4. Works directly under their OES District Director.
  5. First-aid and CPR training is recommended, but not required.

Historical Researcher

NOTICE: This is a non-exploration/non-investigator position strictly for someone who does not wish to join us in the field, but enjoys researching information.

  1. Must have previous experience in researching historical information including but not limited to property records, wills, deeds, death records and newspapers.
  2. Must know how to operate microfilm and microfiche machines.
  3. Must be comfortable navigating libraries, courthouses, archives, museums and other areas where records are kept, and have a working knowledge of their policies and procedures.
  4. Must be available to travel to all counties within their assigned district (see map below) within a reasonable amount of time.
  5. Works directly under their OES District Director.

OES District Director

  1. Must have at least three years of experience exploring abandoned buildings, drains, tunnels or similar locations.
  2. Must be able to work well with others and lead the group in explorations within their district.
  3. Must have your own equipment, including but not limited to, at least one flashlight, a respirator rated for asbestos filtration, a cell phone, a computer with Internet access and a web camera.
  4. Must be available to travel to all counties within their assigned district (see map below) within a reasonable amount of time.
  5. Must have working knowledge of computer operation, including checking email (Gmail engine), editing PDF files (Foxit Reader preferred), creating ZIP files, and uploading files to the Internet.
  6. Will actively seek out new locations to explore in addition to exploring locations sent from the OES home office.
  7. Works directly under the OES President.
  8. First-aid and CPR training is recommended, but not required.
