Slate Run Metro Park is one of the most active parks in the Columbus area.
It is the only park of it's kind in Central Ohio with a complete
Living Historical Farm. We visited the park and it's historical farm
on June 23, 2002. All of us who went that day had grown up in the
city, so it was a thrill looking at all of the farm animals, as well
as how life really was in the 1880s. The Gothic Revival house used
by the historical farm was built in 1856, and the barn was built in
1881. Both have been fully restored to their 1880s state and use. |

The House |
Walking down the dirt driveway, you can begin to feel like you've been transported to the past. This duck sat in front of the house. This house was transported here from a nearby plot for use in the historical farm. The main stairway in the house. Looking into the parlor of the house. An antique organ and desk/bookshelf in the parlor. The old sofa in the parlor. An antique sewing machine sitting in the dining room. The dining room of the 1880s. The kitchen area of the house. There's the kitchen sink. For all the hot cooking, a detached summer kitchen is just behind the house. An old antique stove sitting in the summer kitchen. The pantry is full of canned goods. The tool shed out back is where many of the home's everyday materials were made or fixed.

The Barn & Animals |
The historical barn, built in 1881. A wide-shot inside of the barn. These bulls have their own place in the barn. A goose running loose in the barn. A work horse posing for a picture. Getting a drink of water. Another horse decides to join his buddy for a drink. The cows roam around behind the barn. Little baby ducklings running around. Lots of turkey eating up their feed. Roosters looking around their yard. The pigs didn't stop eating for their picture. The sheep were just laying around in the barn. This storage barn had a wagon in it. The other storage barn contained many types of equipment. The storage shed also contained many items. The windmill and the sun.
