General Information
The OES visited the Hamilton Township Police Department on October 15, 2000. Upon our arrival from the rear of the building, we speculated that the building was an old school house. After we parked and walked around to the other side of the building, we had second thoughts. There were two doors on that side of the building. After seeing this we knew the building probably wasn't a school house, but maybe an old post office or general store. We spoke to a helpful woman from the Hamilton Township Board of Trustees who informed us that this building was once the Hamilton Township Police Department. The building is now used for storage as the township contracts Franklin County Sheriff's Department for law enforcement. The building was built in 1920 and was probably abandoned as a police station sometime around 1963 when the Township Trustees took over the building. The old police station may be in danger of being torn down due to an explosion in residential and industrial development in the area around it.
