The OES visited King's Hollow Tunnel in May 11, 2002. Also known as Mineral Tunnel, it is located in the woods just a few miles northeast of the well-known Moonville Tunnel, also featured on this website. Just like the Moonville Tunnel, King's Hollow Tunnel was a part of the Marietta-Cincinnati Railroad. Not much information is available about this tunnel though. We believe it was built around the same time as the Moonville Tunnel and may have undergone renovation around the same time as well. Unlike the Moonville Tunnel, King's Hollow Tunnel is made of wooden beams, not brick. It is also a little taller and longer than Moonville Tunnel. After many years of abandonment, King's Hollow Tunnel seemed to be holding up pretty well. Some of the wooden beams along the wall had been taken, or had fallen out, giving a unique perspective as to how the tunnel was built. The tunnel had a distinctive musty smell and often times you can smell the tunnel before you can see it. Thanks goes to Shannon for giving us directions to King's Hollow Tunnel.

 Location Information: Abandoned
The tunnel is near the intersection of Rockcamp and King Hollow Roads near Mineral; Athens County.
