Water Street Residence – Contribution

07/12/2004: Thanks to the anonymous contributor for submitting this story about their home on Water Street in Darke County. Everything seemed normal when they purchased the home, but the arrival of a new baby brought out the ghosts! From humming lullabies to full apparitions, this house was haunted!

My husband and I bought an older home, built in the early 1900s, 2½ years ago. Strange things started to happen when I got pregnant. I have never really believed in ghosts, or even thought about ghosts until then. Our dog started barking and growling at nothing, the walls, a chair, etc. My husband and I joked around and both said to each other, “Oh, we must have a ghost!” We really just thought that our dog was nuts.

Once the baby was born, I would swear to my husband that I could hear a lady humming a lullaby on our monitor, and the monitor lights would go crazy. I would go upstairs to check on my son, and the humming would stop instantly. Just about 1 week ago, my husband awoke at 5:30 in the morning in a panic. He woke me up and said that he saw a woman, or little girl, holding a baby at the end of our bed. He couldn’t make out the woman, or little girl’s face, but he could see that the baby was looking up at the person holding it, and the baby had a pacifier in its mouth with one of those ribbon clips on it. My husband said he was looking at it for almost a minute thinking that it was my son and I, then he saw that I was asleep next to him. This really freaked both of us out.

Now we heard weird noises coming from our upstairs every once in a while. This whole experience has given us the desire to start doing research on our house. Hopefully we will come up with an answer as to why this is happening.
