Haunted Laboratory Investigation

Investigation #05ORQ70112

The Ohio Exploration Society conducted this investigation at the Haunted Laboratory in Akron, Ohio, on October 10, 2005. The start time was 8:30 PM with an end time of 11:30 PM.

General Information

Opened in 1932, the Guggenheim Air Institute building housed a wind tunnel operated by the University of Akron. The building was used as a school for some time before being closed in the 1960s. The building was purchased and converted into a haunted attraction in the 1970s. Witnesses have reported seeing strange lights and hearing odd sounds inside the building. The area surrounding the property is believed to be cursed and is blamed for several tragedies. A paranormal investigator named Doctor Wilhelm Von Groddeck supposedly disappeared after investigating the building in 1968. We could find no historical record of the doctor ever existing during our research.

Thanks again to DeLuca and Charlotte for Q92 for giving us the opportunity to investigate with them!

Paranormal / Unusual Activity

Unfortunately, we did not record any electronic voice phenomenon or capture anything out of the ordinary on video or photos during our investigation at the Haunted Laboratory. Several security cameras captured dust orbs but they were not of paranormal significance.

Our investigators did have a strange experience, though. While investigating the haunting attraction’s “Clown Room,” Robinson and Colwell physically felt a hot spot. While hotspots are not unheard of, they are much more rare than the cold spots usually attributed with paranormal activity. A slightly higher electromagnetic field reading coincided with the area of the hot spot. Robinson walked into a back hallway just behind the “Clown Room” that is used by the attraction’s actors and witnessed a curtain move, as if someone had just walked through it. Robinson immediately walked over to the curtain only to see no one else was there.
