Hancock County Education & Training Center – Formerly the Hancock County Home and later a work-release center, employees have reported seeing an unknown man wearing coveralls throughout the building and the grounds outside. The smell of cigar or pipe smoke usually accompanies a sighting of the old man, despite the fact that smoking is prohibited in the building. The ghost of a young girl has been seen in the basement near the area that once contained the morgue. Some have reported hearing her speak or cry. Workers have reported finding old pennies on their desks or inside locked desk drawers when returning to work after the weekend. Lights turn on in locked offices at night and cold spots are often felt, even on warm days.

Hartman Cemetery – The tombstones are said to move to different positions here. If you pick a tombstone and return to the cemetery within a week, it will be in a different location.

Owens Community College – Students and teachers have reported seeing a child’s face appear in the upstairs window of the child care center after it has closed. Lights turn on on their own, the storage room door closes by itself, and cold spots are often felt on the second floor. The giggles of children are sometimes heard when no children are present. Rumor says the place is haunted by two young girls who died from either carbon monoxide poisoning or in a fire. The paranormal activity seems to increase during the spring.

Weidler’s Passing – The railroad tracks near Weidler’s Passing at Township Road 236 is haunted by a spectral light. The light is said to belong to a trainman who was killed in an accident there in 1889. The light flags down trains and then disappears into the woods. Some have even reported seeing a headless figure carrying a lantern roaming the tracks late at night.

County Road 4 Cemetery – This cemetery contains a statue of a lady who looks like Mary. If touched, you can hear footsteps behind you when you walk away. At night, the eyes of the statue sometimes glow red.
