New Golden Wedge Golf Course

The OES visited New Golden Wedge Golf Course on November 5, 2000. Sitting at the intersection of Alum Creek Drive and Rohr Road in Groveport, this small 18 hole, 56 par golf course had been there for quite a few years. It was known for its flat terrain, the water hazards on two of the holes, several sand traps, and small greens that were slightly sloped and fast. Many of those in the surrounding community played their first game of golf at the course. Industrial development began to boom around Rickenbacker International Airport, located a couple of miles from the golf course in 1999. Business for Golden Wedge began going downhill, so the owners closed the course and sold the land to a developer.

At the time of our visit, there were stakes with orange ribbons throughout the golf course marking where the construction of new warehouses would begin. About half of the course had already been developed, but the clubhouse was still intact. Within a few months of our visit, all that was left of the New Golden Wedge Golf Course was the memories of these who hit their first golf ball off the grassy tee at Hole 1. The grounds of the golf course are no more. A large warehouse now stands where the fourth photo was taken.
