The OES visited the Thomas Seeds Cemetery on
October 18, 2002. Established in 1855, Thomas Seeds Cemetery is located just off
of Hoover Road in Jackson Township of Franklin County. Even though the official
founding was in 1855, there were several tombstones, many of them children, who
were buried before the cemetery was founded, some as early as 1812. Veterans of
both the War of 1812 and the Civil War were found buried here. Most dates on
the stones ranged from the mid-1800s to the early-1900s. Most of the tombstones
were
in decent shape, but others had been weathered or broken beyond repair.
Jackson Township Trustees, who care for the cemetery, have repaired and replaced
some of the stones, but some of those were not placed back in their original location.
