| The OES visited the Paint Creek Memorial
Cemetery on October 18, 2002. The cemetery, just off of Old Xenia Road, is also
known as Paint Creek Cemetery, Paint Township Cemetery, and Withrow Cemetery.
The original cemetery may have been established in the 1820s, as
those were the oldest tombstones that we found during our visit. We
found tombstones from Civil War Soldiers up to more recent wars. A
newer section was added to the cemetery in 1966 and is currently
still in use. Many of the tombstones are still in good shape, but
there are a few that have been weathered or broken. |

The older sign for the cemetery. The newer 1966 sign near the road. Many older tombstones were in this corner. And in another corner, there were old and new stones mixed together. A couple of sheds used to store cemetery supplies. A double-tombstone for the Armstrong and Marshall wives. Looking from a newer section back to an older one. A view of the older section of the cemetery. From the front of the cemetery to the rear. Some tombstones of Civil War Soldiers. Another look toward the rear of the cemetery. More of the Paint Township Cemetery. The tombstone for Rebecca Stroup, who died on August 23, 1823. The Miles plot dated back to 1864. The Hornbeck tombstone in the older section. And the tombstone of John Stroup, who died on 1/18/1845. A painted lamb tombstone marks the grave of a child. This small tombstone simply states "Little Helen". A couple of newer tombstones with Jesus statues.
