| The OES visited Mound Hill Cemetery on July 1, 2001. Located in Eaton, Ohio (not too far from Fort Saint Clair), this cemetery was founded in the early - mid 1800s and is now the largest cemetery in Preble County. There were a few tombs that stood above the ground like little out-houses, many large obelisks, tombstones shaped like trees, and even a full-color monument dedicated to the Civil War soldiers buried here. There was a small church-like building in the middle of the cemetery that may have been a church at one time, but the cemetery has taken it over. Also in the cemetery is a small mound located near the front. Although I'm not too sure if it was an Indian burial mound, it now has someone buried in it as there is a tombstone on top of it. Thanks goes to Corrine for taking us to Mound Hill Cemetery. |
