Bidwell
Knox Hollow - The hollow is haunted by twins who drowned in the creek there. As the story goes, the twins didn't know how to swim. One night, while sleepwalking, they wondered down into the creek. When their father yelled to them, they awoke and drowned.
Cadmus
Shades of Death Forest - A forest between Cadmus and Patriot is said to be haunted by the ghost of a woman who was hung by her husband.
Cora
Cora Mill Bridge - This bridge is said to be haunted by people who have fallen over the edge to their death in the shallow water and rocks below.
Crown City
Methodist Church - A ghostly house is sometimes seen standing next to the church. After being viewed for a few moments, the house simply vanishes.
The Narrows - Located south of Crown City, Route 7 (known as The Narrows) is home to cold blasts of air, phantom boulders falling from cliffs, and ghostly headlights appearing in rear view mirrors.
Gallia
Chimney Rock - The ghostly screams of a woman who committed suicide by jumping off a rock can sometimes be heard during the night.
Gallipolis
Our House Museum - Originally built in 1819 by Henry Cushing, the place was originally a tavern. He invited people from the many boats docking at the Ohio River to "come on over to our house". There have been many sightings and sounds here. Mysterious footsteps in the foyer and a woman's singing in the second floor ballroom are common place.
Mercerville
Fierbaugh Road - Witnesses have reported an animal-like creature that resembles a buffalo chasing their vehicles while driving on the road late at night. When the vehicle speeds up, the animal goes from all fours to two legs and keeps up with the car.
Oak Hill
Bethel Cemetery
- A dark, mysterious humanoid figure standing six to seven feet tall has been
seen in this cemetery. When seen, it goes up a hill and disappears. The cemetery
was vandalized heavily and the church burned to the ground one night after an
eyewitness had seen the figure.
Thivener
Williams Hollow Road - Behind the strip mines on Williams Hollow Road is a path that leads to a clearing with a tree that only exists during a certain part of the fall. This tree is unmistakable when you see it. It is choked by several black vines with, at minimum, six-inch black thorns that have fallen around the bottom to form a halo around the bottom of the tree. The tree itself looks to have been struck by lightening as is black in color and VERY dead (that is the feeling you get when you are around it). Nothing grows around this tree within a thirty foot radius and the "vibes" coming off of it are, in the least, disturbing. Behind the tree is a natural set of steps in the rocks that lead into the ridge connecting to Perkins Road. Sheep in the fields would not pass through a twenty foot opening into the field that boarded the area. Residents along the road have talked about Native American burial grounds being unearthed by strip mining in the 1940s and 1950s. Human skulls have been found and broken pottery, including arrowheads, and other Native American tools. Sightings of strange lights in the woods and most popularly a War Chieftain being seen on his horse "jumping" from ridge to ridge.
